CORINTHIAN IN SPIRIT, COMPETITIVE BY NATURE

NOW OPEN FOR SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

ON RICHARD HUDSON, PRETTY WOMAN & A NEW APPROACH TO SAILING

Bruce Farr designed, Richard Hudson owned Pretty Woman is ready for the new season with full calendar.

Designed in New Zealand, built in United States and skippered by Richard Hudson, she is a true local with her heart settled in Pittwater, Ku-ring-gai.

In between back-to-back races, she rests at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Newport, Sydney.

Beyond a racing boat, Pretty Woman is an amateur racing community:

Corinthian in spirit, competitive by nature.

RICHARD HUDSON: MORE THAN A WORLD CLASS SKIPPER

Sailing and racing with three generations on board, Richard has been an integral part of the Australian sailing scene since early ’70s:

  • Racing the toughest off-shore events, as well as up the coast and down to the south races annually, the twilights, the weeklies and the community fun series among many others;

  • Working with Australian Sailing as a Director to raise Governance Standards of sailing administration across Australia;

  • Volunteering as State Judge, umpire and race officer;

  • Past Commodore and Chairman of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club,

  • CYCA, Ocean Veteran of the Year, 2022, and

  • Leading by example in supporting young generations, gender diversity and all-age sailing.

THE CHAMPION OF INCLUSIVE SAILING

As much as a world class skipper and a contributor to Australian Sailing, combined with a vision much bigger than winning races,

and with a heart that is inclusive as inspiring,

Richard has carried Pretty Woman in particular, Australian sailing in general, into a new level and created an exemplar model for the future of sailing:

He created space and opportunity

for an inclusive and sustainable sailing culture

that is welcoming and self-generating, that enriches our local community and creates an impact much bigger than a racing Pretty Woman.

ONE BOAT, GREAT COMMUNITY

A NEW APPROACH..

  • A model, that takes

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

as a fundamental component of continuity, bringing in self-generation.

In this regard, Richard has championed RPAYC Youth Development Program which has trained hundreds of young people over the past 20+ years. He also provided space to and created opportunities for them to train and develop their sailing, racing and life skills. Among them now are World class athletes, Olympic medalists, World Champions, Australia Champions, Hobart winners and Women's’ Match Racing Champions.

  • A model that takes

WOMEN

as an integral part of sailing at all levels and supports

GENDER DIVERSITY

by encouraging everyone  in sailing.

  • A model that widens the spectrum of sailing beyond racing and supports

COMMUNITY AND ALL-AGE SAILING

by welcoming novice members as well as the veterans as individuals’ sailing capabilities change over time.

THIS INCLUSIVE APPROACH ADVANCES THE SAILING CULTURE AND EXTENDS, ENRICHES AND STRENGTHENS THE COMMUNITY.
